SUPERstitious

If you know me, you'll know that I'm a little bit superstitious. Ok fine, I'm a lot bit superstitious. And as superstition states, or better yet, as my mom-in-law states, you cannot cut baby's hair until his 1st birthday, otherwise it's bad luck.

I may be superstitious, but mom-in-law is SUPER-stitious

Ummmm. Don't tell my mom-in-law, but baby got his first haircut today! And no, we didn't hop into the DeLorean, and fast forward to his 1st birthday. We cut baby's hair at almost 7 months. I know - I know...Mom-in-law won't be happy. But the hubby and I are thinking we can just deny it and say we're just styling it differently. Perhaps she won't notice?

Admittedly, the chances of her not noticing are as slim as the Olsen twins, since before the haircut, baby looked like ZZ top and now he looks like he is ready to serve in the armed forces. Ok I exaggerate (just a little).

So yes, I'm superstitious, but I'm also a bit pragmatic. And really, I cannot have my baby's hair getting any longer than mine. Ok I exaggerate (just a little). His hair was way past his ears, and although I'm all for the shaggy, sk8ter boi look, it was indeed time for baby to get a cut.

And he just looks cuter than ever. Not that the long hair made him any less adorable, mind you. But now his shorter hair makes him look like a little man, no longer a baby.

As for his luck, I'm not worried. He's a golden pig remember?

And as for my mom-in-law? We're still hoping she won't notice. Knock on wood. Three times. Hurry (three-second-rule)!

Ok I exaggerate (just a little).

Spreading Out

Yes life is about spreading out these days.

Baby is starting to be more mobile which means it's a whole new game now folks with a whole new set of rules. And just when we were settling into a routine, life just mixes it up again.

So he's almost 7 months and he's on the cusp of crawling. He wants to, but can't quite coordinate himself to do it just yet, so he squirms around. This means its about that time for the hubby and me to join the "no-coffee-table" club. Yup, we're ready to clear away our beloved coffee table for now so that baby has ample room to squirm around. That, and we need to purchase a new baby-friendly area rug so baby has some fresh, clean cushy, comfy support down there. (We have hardwood floors - ouch!)

We're also "thinking" about transforming our dining room into his play room. Let me rephrase that. I have decided to...the hubby is still "thinking" about it.

So as our cute little modern house slowly transforms into a jungle gym, our little one waits for no one. He's growing up so fast, it's not even funny. Too fast, which means, play areas in the house aren't the only things spreading out lately.

Did I mention bed hogs? Yes, plural! We have a king, let me repeat a KING size bed. And baby does sleep with us. But lets put this into perspective. I'm a tiny gal. Baby's a big, but still small baby, and then there's the hubby. You would think there would be more than enough room on our huge bed for all 3 of us. WRONG! I already had to deal with the hubby being a space hog, but like father, like son! He's far outgrown his snuggle-nest, so there's nothing holding him back. We all go to sleep forming three parallel lines, simple enough right? But we wake up, forming an "H" - yes and baby is the perpendicular one. The hubby has 50% of the bed space. Leaving baby and me the other half, and then of that half, baby takes up 75% of that, so I'm left with a sliver.

Yes, we're all spreading out these days, though sometimes I think I'm spread too thin! Still, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Vaccine-hate!

Mama always taught me that "hate" is a strong word. So use it with caution.

Trust me when I say this, " I HATE HATE HATE VACCINATION SHOTS FOR BABY!"

Yes, baby had his 6 month check-up last week, and that meant another torturous round of vaccination shots! Why oh why do they need to group them all together and give poor little babies, not even a year old, 4 shots at once! I will never understand.

And to add to his pain, the hubby and I opted to also give him the flu vaccine since the flu season is almost upon us. Ugh and that was the worst one, since we know how sore we are after our flu shots, baby must be sore!

Oh how I hate to see them give the shots to my baby! It's pure torture! And gosh, the side effects suck! Baby comes into these doc appointments healthy and happy and he's just so miserable and sometimes even sick afterwards. Especially this time, since after his flu vaccine, he got a bit of a cold.

Are these vaccinations doing more harm than good?

And the growing cases regarding the controversial link between the dreaded MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine and Autism - just scares the $#%*! out of me! Is there a link? Several moms of autistic children, including Jenny McCarthy and Holly Robinson Peete say YES! But my pediatrician and the government say NO, so who do I believe? I mean I've been following Jenny McCarthy's baby since she was preggy with him and her books got me through my pregnancy, and Holly - well she was an officer in 21 Jump Street!

More and more moms are stating that their kids were developing normally up until they received the dreaded MMR shot at around the 12 - 18 month timeframe! And then soon afterwards the kids started regressing and deteriorating mentally, showing distinct signs of Autism. Yikes!

And like Britney's comeback, this is so disappointing, since we MUST get ALL the vaccinations or baby won't be accepted into any daycares, preschools, schools, and heaven forbid Harvard!

So my hands are tied and we must proceed with all his vaccinations. I hope and pray there is no link to Autism. Baby is happy and healthy and we'd like to keep it that way.

The hubby says we must continue to vaccinate.

So I will continue to vaccine-hate!

Mom-Me and Me

Let's redefine Mommy and me.

There's the Mom-me...

So I've gotten the hang of this mommy thing. I can pack baby's diaper bag in a flash and change his diaper one handed. I can mix his formula in the car while we off-road and I can carry my big baby, who's already practically half my size, in my arms for longer than Paris' jail sentence. So as a mom-me, I'm cool.

Then there's the me-me...

But as a "me-me", I don't know what's going on. There just really isn't any time to focus on me nowadays. Just the other day, I was all good getting everything ready for baby since we were making an unexpected outing, and then as I was in the car driving, I realized I still had on my house slippers! Yikes! But there really was no time to turn back. Let us give thanks and praise for two things. 1)Thank goodness I wasn't heading to a formal event. And as for my outfit, well lets just say that the slippers added a casual look to it. 2)Thank goodness it wasn't my fuzzy bunny slippers. Other than the hubby's endless teasing, no harm done.

And then all of a sudden, I also realized my hair has reached an unacceptable length! I've always had long hair - but this is like Rapunzel-style. I'm straight ready to let my hair out the window for someone to climb it (but I live in a one story house as opposed to a tower of a castle - so that might not work out). How did it get this long? So I've booked the hair appointment and more importantly, I also booked the freelance gig that will pay for my hair appointment.

I'm back to my pre-preggo weight, but its just not what it used to be folks. I'm not toned, it's jello. I have the annual Nike Run Hit Remix this weekend, and I have not trained for it one bit. Before I used to think my nephew couldn't keep up with me even though he beat me twice, and now I'm just hoping I can keep up with my 10 year old niece! or even my MOM!

So as a mom-me, I'm definitely getting the hang of it.

As for me-me, I'm just trying to hang in there.

Back to Cool

Ah labor day has passed, and that means 2 things...

...It's time for me to get our Halloween Costumes and...

...It's back to school!

For the past 2 weeks, I've been a busy mommy and auntie. I was doing double duty babysitting my neice since her older brother started high school and so she stayed with me and baby for the timebeing.

Although it was tiring, she was an awesome companion and a great help in taking care of baby. Add that to the fact that my sister packed her some generous lunches, enough to share with me and the hubby so that we were eating well for 2 weeks, they've got a babysitter anytime they need me!

So for the past 2 weeks, I've been immersed in both the 10 year old teen pop phenoma known as High School Musical 2 and Hannah Montana and of course my baby's very own latest addiction (or is it mine?), baby einstein.

Yup, ask me to sing along with any of their popular tunes, and I can do it, plus the choreography! Yes, that's my life now.

Today, I actually miss not having my neice here. Sure it was hard balancing taking care of 2 kids, but she took care of herself fine too. She's at that age where all she was interested in doing was watching the Disney Channel and hopping on the computer to find out the latest news on Zanessa, the teen version of Brangelina. Come on folks, get with the program!

As for baby einstein, baby loves it! Plus mommy loves it too since I can get some stuff done while he's watching it. Only thing is, my sis-in-law gave us all her dvds and there's only 1 that's for his age range right now, and it happens to be the "Baby Santa" one! So yes folks, the holidays have arrived at our house super early this year, and baby is already being immersed in holiday carols and images of candy canes, presents and santa are already bouncing in his head! We're just hoping when it finally is time to celebrate the holidays, baby won't be confused and think that the holidays really start in late August. (Won't that be a rude awakening for Frosty!)

So it's post Labor Day, we're not supposed to wear white anymore, baby is 6 months old today, and my neice is back to school.

I still find myself singing along to her High School Musical 2 songs on my iPod, I still know all their choreography, plus I'm dancing along to the holiday carols on baby's baby einstein dvd, I FINALLY finished the last book in the Harry Potter series...sooo goooooood, AND last, today should mark the end of this insane heat wave we've been having here!

So now my life's about The Wildcats, Baby Einstein, the Backyardigans, and Harry Potter, so I'm on my way back to cool!
